About Community Through Music Youth Chorus

Our goal is to bring together young persons of diverse backgrounds to develop broad-based community connection and engagement through musical collaboration supplemental to what is offered in school.

The Chorus offers a week-long Summer Sing camp in July, then holds regular weekly rehearsals on Thursdays during the school year at Ascension Memorial Church (31 County Street, Ipswich).

There are two groups depending on age of participant:

Primo - Ages 5-10 - rehearses Thursdays from 4 to 5pm

Intermezzo - Ages 11-18 - rehearses Thursdays from 5 to 6pm

We present three concerts every year, one in Winter, one is Spring, and one at the end of the Summer Sing camp.

Our purpose and vision is to make choral music fun and to engage every participating student emotionally, socially, physically and intellectually through:

  • deepening concentration, memory and active listening

  • practicing goal-setting and discipline through weekly rehearsals

  • making connections and friendships in the community

  • experiencing the excitement of performing and the pure relaxation and joy that singing brings

  • performing music representing different cultures and ethnicities

  • learning and performing as a team

These skills translate to the classroom and to family dynamics as well.

No fees or auditions are required to participate.

We accept students ages 5- 18 from Ipswich, MA and surrounding towns, of every background, ethnicity, experience level and ability. No prior experience is required - just bring your enthusiasm, curiosity, and sense of fun!
